Why have we introduced HPL at Heathside?

We have adopted the High Performance Learning framework because we are confident that every pupil stands to gain from its approach to teaching and learning. How are we using HPL?

We are embedding High Performance Learning (HPL) across all lessons and assemblies throughout Heathside School to support every student in reaching their full potential.

HPL is built around a set of clearly defined competencies that shape both teaching and learning. These are divided into two key areas:

Values, Attitudes and Attributes (VAAs): These guide pupils on how to behave in ways that enhance learning, both inside and outside the classroom. They encourage qualities such as empathy, resilience, and collaboration, skills that are essential not only in school but also in the wider world.
Advanced Cognitive Performance (ACPs): These focus on how pupils think, helping them to develop strategies for learning effectively. Rather than concentrating solely on what is learned, ACPs promote deeper thinking, reflection, and problem-solving.
