This week, we proudly celebrated Sustainability Week—a highlight of the Heathside calendar. It has been inspiring to see our pupils engaging so thoughtfully with environmental issues and exploring the practical steps we can all take to protect our planet.

Year 3 embraced the week by looking ahead to the future of our planet. We discussed that many of them are likely to witness the year 2100 and beyond, which sparked thoughtful conversations about how to care for the Earth. The children recognised the importance of conserving resources and wrote pledges for small, meaningful changes they can make to create a big impact.

Year 4 and 5 had a fantastic time taking part in Sustainability Week, especially enjoying visits from guest speakers at GoodGym and the Safer Neighbourhood Team. They were fascinated to learn how volunteers help look after the community—whether it’s running to support isolated neighbours or working together to keep local areas safe and clean.

From insightful classroom discussions across the school to visits from community members leading local clean-up initiatives, our children embraced every opportunity with genuine enthusiasm. Their passion for sustainability and determination to make a positive difference beautifully reflect the core values we uphold at Heathside.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff for designing such meaningful learning experiences, and to our families for reinforcing these important messages at home. Together, we are raising a generation that is not only academically strong, but also socially conscious and environmentally aware.
