Last Friday, our school celebrated an exciting Design and Technology Day, a whole-school event dedicated to creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning. The day gave pupils the opportunity to design, build, and test their own creations, exploring how imagination and engineering come together to make things move.

Our Year 5 pupils worked in pairs on an ambitious project to design and make their own mechanical moving toys. Using cams, dowels, and simple mechanisms, they discovered how movement can be created through thoughtful design and problem-solving. From spinning animals to dancing robots, every project was unique, showing just how inventive our young designers can be. Pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork, perseverance, and attention to detail as they turned their sketches into working models.

Meanwhile, our Year 3 pupils let their creativity run wild by designing and constructing their own monsters. Using a mix of materials, colour, and texture, they produced imaginative and characterful creatures—each one with its own personality and story.

The day was a wonderful celebration of design thinking, curiosity, and collaboration. It reminded us how important it is to give pupils opportunities to explore, experiment, and make things with their hands. A huge well done to all our budding engineers, inventors, and creators for their enthusiasm and fantastic results.
