Our first Parent & Child Learning Workshop of the year was a wonderful success! Led by Karen, Head of EYFS (Head of Early Years), with support from Megan (our Admissions Manager), the interactive morning session focused on helping parents develop simple yet effective strategies to support early literacy at home.

Families were treated to a lively reading of Octopus Shocktopus!, a brilliantly bonkers story about an octopus who lives on the roof, written by two award-winning and bestselling picture book creators. The story sparked lots of laughter, curiosity, and imagination, perfectly setting the tone for the day’s activities.

Children and parents then took part in a range of engaging literacy-based activities designed to make reading fun and accessible. From storytelling games to creative crafts inspired by the book, everyone enjoyed exploring language and storytelling together.

The workshop provided parents with practical tips to encourage reading at home — from making shared reading a daily routine to using questions and play to build comprehension and confidence.

It was a great first event of the year, filled with smiles, learning, and connection. We’re already looking forward to many more sessions that celebrate the joy of reading and the power of learning together!
